EXPANSION OF THE BANK OF ATTICA GROUP
10 September 2003
In line with its effort to expand and cover the entire range of investment
products and options for businesses and potential investors, Bank of Attica has
established Attica Ventures, a company with the exclusive purpose of managing
venture capital funds.
Attica Ventures has a share capital of € 600,000 and its immediate plans
include establishing its first fund with the participation of institutional and
private investors.
The capital expected to be raised will be invested in SMEs with an emphasis
on innovation in cutting-edge sectors (such as telecommunications, IT, energy,
e-commerce, biotechnology and new materials) and in companies whose
competitiveness is founded on technology applications, innovation and new
scientific research.
According to the Banks Managing Director, Mr. Konstantinos Stamoulis, the
Bank aims to encourage entrepreneurship and the transfer of research and new
technologies to production, and to stir the Greek market, since this is an
innovative type of investment, one of the few on the capital market contributing
to the transfer of excess wealth to bolster skill, quality, knowledge and
know-how.
Attica Ventures/ General Manager was appointed after a unanimous decision of
the Banks Board of Directors. He is Mr. Giannis Papadopoulos, holder of a
masters degree in mechanical engineering from the NTUA, an MBA from the City
University Business School (London) and a doctoral candidate with the Athens
Economics University who also has extensive experience in managing venture
capital and investments.
